Watercolour Paint
What are the main differences between watercolour and acrylic paint?
I am just curious.
The difference between coal and milk! Watercolours are transparent the light passes through the wash and reflects off the paper underneath to supply the light whereas acrylics which are opaque which means the colour which comes out of the tube is the colour that you get. The only similarity is that you can thin the acrylics with water and wash the brushes in water other than that they have more in common with oil paint.It is true that Gouache or Body colour, in which the pigment is mixed with China white to create pastel shades and makes it easy to cover mistakes because like acrylic, it becomes opaque, is a form of watercolour painting, but purists would sneer and say true watercolour is pigment and water, no white and no black, no pencil or pen, anything other than pigment, water and paper, is mixed media, even some techniques such as scratching out and masking off are looked down on in some circles although I think that is going a bit far.
