!!!!!!!!!!drumming speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
i am learning to play the drums, and i am practicing all the rudiments before i move on to a kit im using a practice pad and metronome to help my speed and timing.
i am learning from "buddy rich's modern interpretation of snare drum rudiments" is a great book to learn from its got everything in it.
but i don't know if the speed is correct (i am only a beginner and i am on alternative single strokes), my metronome is on 248 beats per minute (maximum it goes to) but when i practice its seems quite slow, i usually practice much faster but i don't know if its important to move on in the book or to just practice without the metronome but at faster speeds.
what im trying to say is, should i practice the first lesson (development of the hands) at 248 BPM or just do the session at a faster speed than the metronome.
the book says it should be practiced until a fairly rapid arte of speed is attained, but i don't know how fast that is.
I am a drummer myself. I taught myself to play with rudiment books and YouTube and I understand where you are coming form. The Buddy Rich is a great idea. There isn’t a real set tempo to play by. Just play at what ever feels comfortable. You could play at 200 BPM or 300 BPM, what ever you think fits. I read your metronome maxes out at 248 like most do. In this case, play starting at 150 with a half-time feel.
