Roses Large

How do I get earwigs off my roses?
I have a large rose garden about 1 metre away from my vegetable garden. My roses are well established, and in bloom now (I'm in New Zealand), but they are crawling with earwigs. I have tried a general purpose insect and fungus spray, and that hasn't worked. Any suggestions?
You can get rid of the earwigs by spraying them directly with insecticidal soap which disrupts these soft-bodied insects’ cell membranes, and kills the pests by dehydration. Insecticidal soap is a contact poison, so spray it directly onto the insects you want to eliminate. Try to apply in the cooler part of the day & when it's not sunny.
To make your own insecticidal soap, I would not use more than 1 tablespoon of a pure liquid soap, like Ivory (not detergent) to 1 quart water.

Several other insecticidal soap mixtures use a smaller soap to water ratio.

Mother Earth News recommends making an insecticidal soap concentrate from Fels-Naptha soap which is added to water when you need to use it.:

I spray the earwigs I see directly with my soap & water mixture, then I spray into the center of the flowers. When they come up from hiding I spray them again... which makes them just drop off the flower. Almost instant action LOL
Good luck!!! Hope this is helpful.

In English-speaking countries, we tend to look at Verdi's Macbeth, think of Shakespeare, and shake our heads a little sadly. Yes, it is a fine Italian opera, but it lacks the verbal richness, the psychological depth, the symbolic resonance, and the subtle characterizations of Shakespeare's tragedy...
