Painting Set

How to paint Drum set on my own?
I have primed the shells of my set already and I am ready to add my first coat... Should I use the same kind of paint that is used on cars? I can purchase cans at the local Auto Store. Any other suggestions that look good but not too expensive?
Well first you are doing the right thing. You are asking questions.
Do all the research you can find. Till it starts repeating itself.
I would stay away from Car paints. It would actually make the drum harder and also the drum would lose some resonance and overall warmth.
Try using wood stains to begin with. They are easier to work with too.
You can go to any hardware store and pick colors from a wide range of choices.
You can also look up a store that sells wood and wood related products. You could also check into the place where you buy the raw shells.
I would stay away from retail places, they just want to sell you new premade stuff.
After a few times you could switch to using other types of paints, like car paints but its much more tough to get it just right. I would test it on a snare drum you could live without first.
I would recommend places but I am sorta out of the loop. I played for 30 years before health and finances stopped me from playing. Just getting back into it.
Hope this helps
