Drawing Pencil

What is the correct pencil sharpener for drawing pencils?
Do I just use a normal pencil sharpener like I buy from Staples or am I supposed to use a special sharpener?
I always use a whittling knife to cut the wood off then sharpen the graphite on a little piece of fine sandpaper-- pencils last much longer
